Foil discarded from confetti stars
Below shows what I mean when I am trying to describe this stuff. It is like a heavy foil that has had stars (or other shapes) punched out of it to make metallic confetti.
Anyway, I came up with an idea & went with the flow... I found some cheap glass tumblers that had nice straight & flat sides & not too tall. Got my glue, sticky tape & scissors out as well as the foil stuff. Got my glass & wrapped the foil around it, cut it with a slight overlap & straight... Don't use you good scissors for this, kitchen scissors will do the job. After that I positioned it so it was straight with the rim of the glass, taped the foil to hold it steady while gluing the beginning (the glue I used was a clear quick drying craft glue, so if you want to reclaim your glass back it won't take much to peel it off). You will now glue the beginning & hold it down with your fingers until it stays by itself, you can then glue in 2 or 3 places around the glass & do the same for the end you did for the start by holding the foil until set. My glue only takes a few minutes to set... the fun part is peeling off all the dried out glue bits off your fingers (like peeling skin).
The next part is the best!!! get yourself a tealight candle whether it is real or battery it will set a romantic evening or at Christmas time.

Card Making Tuesdays
Hi all, Her Cave has been running a few Tuesdays over the past couple of months with the exception of a couple of times it didn't happen due to sickness.
I thought I'd show you all what Monica & I (the only ones right now) have been up to. We have done more but I didn't take photos... one thing I must do more often while people come for classes, etc.
I have also got a couple of girls doing sewing & one learning crochet. For now I will show the paper crafts we have done.

Communications
What is it in this day & age about people not returning phone calls, emails, etc. & how do they expect to make it in this would? Or have they made it & just won't say they have.....
I was always taught to respond to people's questions, contact them ASAP after you get a message. I don't know why people do this to themselves as it hurts them & their business if they don't respond.
Yes, you can take this as a whinge, I am trying my hardest to do good, but when you don't get any answers it can make it a bit disheartening at the least.
I went to see someone today as we had made a meeting time & day to meet concerning a hall they have for offer. I arrive there with my husband Pete to find the people doing work around the place had no idea that there was a meeting or who I was. One man said that the Father (as the hall is part of a church) was not going to be there at all today as he has a meeting at Newcastle, the worker then rang Father to find out what was going on... So it seems that the Father was called to a meeting and basically forgot to let me know.... Grrrr
Ok, dusting myself down, we leave & later today I go to another school to talk to someone about a possible place, the secretary says she will give the person in charge the message. Then I go to another Club in the area, wait to see one particular lady who says send an email of what you require, etc. in the next couple of weeks & the Board of Directors will talk about it & get back to me.
Now it's getting late & I am truly hoping for some responses on Thursday.

Meeting & Greeting
Hello everyone,
I had a couple of really good days at Lake Haven Shopping Centre. On Monday & Tuesday I had a table set up to show lots of things that people can learn to make, teach, etc. I have now got a few members signed up & paid their memberships so there is no stopping now. So many women were excited in hearing I am starting up a women's version of the "Men's Sheds" that we now have in Australia. I men want to come along & learn what to do when it comes to a needle & thread, we don't discriminate. We also are accepting women from as young as 16 to 99+ We want to have the older generations showing the younger ones how to do the crafts that we all did growing up... if we don't do something soon, a lot of these crafts will be lost.

What is "Her Cave" all about?
Her Cave....
In short Her Cave is going to hopefully be like a Men's Shed but for women. Regina wanted to start a group on the Central Coast for the local community to learn, meet new people, teach to future generations what she has always loved to do & felt that so many people miss out on being able to learn a create things for themselves through sewing, crochet, knitting, all sorts of paper crafts (eg. scrap book, card making), recycling, up cycling & the list goes on.....
Regina's love of all crafts has lead to her accumulating a lot of tools, sewing machines as well as a large variety of supplies of which some have been gratefully donated to her over the years.
She figures if someone is interested in learning a craft, why should they go out & buy all the tools, etc., to then find they either can not afford classes or they don't end up liking what they have started in a hobby with the result of spending money unnecessarily, to then try & sell those tools, etc.
This way people save money on trying something new & don't feel awful that they have spent money on things that could have gone to other bills & so on.
Regina decided that 2016 was the year to get things rolling!!! Now in May, it is becoming very real with all the ringing around, asking for help to get a space to teach, it will be up and running within the next few weeks (or closer).
So whether it be hand sewing, machine sewing or any of the above mentioned crafts, there will be something for everyone to enjoy..... and just because it says "Her" Cave does not mean it is only for females, if men want to learn to sew, etc. there are no restrictions.... only that you are18 years or older & want to learn.
Regina hopes to see lots of people becoming members of Her Cave in the near future.

Handy Hints
Erasing lettering off plastics
My Hint for you.... recycling
Ok,
this is something I have been looking up on Pinterest & yes it
probably
works if you have 100% pure acetone (used in nail polish remover) but
all 3 bottles I had were mixed with other ingredients. If yopu can get
100% Acetone from somewhere, that will work as they have told me in SO
many "pins".
SO.......
I got to thinking, those "Magic Erasers" do fantastic things &
you can buy them cheap at the Asian stores, liquidators, etc. or you
can get the name brand ones. Ok, I am a cheapskate, I buy them from the
Asian stores for a couple of dollars for a big pack & they work
exactly the same as the name brand ones.
Yes, I know... Get on with it Reg!!!!
Well,
if you have a container (solid white ones) that is like a bucket with a
lid, but you don't want all the
writing on it when you want to re-purpose it for storing stuff, buckets
for the kids to play with... whatever your heart desires, there is an
easy way to get rid of the writing by wetting some of those magic
erasers & rubbing them over (back & forth),
over & over. If it IS going to come off you will see the lettering
disappear. I have some photos of the lid I did from a nut container....
It was a total success!! Then I tried it on another plastic surface
& the date comes off but takes a lot more
rubbing, then I did it to the blue area on the side of the bucket &
had a reasonable result... I think my hands were starting to feel sore
(I do have RSI & arthritic so that doesn't help). Not every surface
will be able to be done this way but I got
a clean lid....lol
Contact (covering) Books
How many people hate that time of year when the kids bring home all
their texts books to be covered? Yes, I know most people don't care for
that job in parenthood, but I will let you in on a little secret. I
dislike one type of covering that is
available on the market & even so I am a self confessed book
coverer addict (yeah I know, sickening isn't it?) I would rather do the
older paper covering & then the clear contact over the top &
take even longer to do it than trying to be patient
with this one in particular type of contact. I am talking about the
thin foil printed contact that is usually printed with all the great
cartoons, or what is "IN" that year. It is also a lot heavier on the
pocket to buy, with so many things the kids need for
school now-a-days, every cent counts. I am speaking from experience, I
had 3 girls & yes they wanted all the "hip" stuff too. Instead of
trying to use this type of contact that can not be repositioned, sticks
to itself, gets creases in it too easily, try
this......
Today there are SO many pictures you can print off the internet, get the kids to pick the specific pictures they want, cut them out, glue onto the from & back of the exercise books & then place clear, good quality contact over the top. Oh yeah, if they want to be creative, let them do their own artworks & don't forget to add their names & class, etc. before contacting.

Clear contact can be used for many things... just google it....
Anyway, one little tip for you..... when writing the childs name onto school lunchboxes, drink bottles, etc. Cut a small piece of left over contact from doing books & stick it over the name so it doesn't rub off. You may find it comes off (especially if the child likes to pick at the label) but you can always wrap in aroung the whole item or just repace when it gets a bit shabby.

As of Friday the 6th of April, 2016. Her Cave has a home for now at East Toukley (more information when available), we are hoping we can have up to 3 days a week at 2 hours. I know 2 hours isn't really a big time slot, but we have to make do as this is a free place for us. Otherwise we would have to put our hands into out pockets & that is not the idea of Her Cave.
In another section there will be what Her Cave is all about, this is an intro as I am just putting this all together for everyone as well as a home base for all members. I really hope we all have a wonderful happy future together, creating new things for future generations to see & learn from our skills. Let us keep all craft, art, sewing, knitting, crochet & everything else creative alive. We are NOT ready to throw away our skills, we are ready to show our skills to each & every generation coming along.
